it's a wonderful life!

Last year I watched It's A Wonderful Life for the first time and ever since it's made Christmas feel a little more special. It's been something extra to look forward to as November rolled around; another small thing I've wanted to share with my love and another new tradition I've wanted to start.

So yesterday we found ourselves, on a double date, grabbing the last few seats at our favourite city cinema. I was the only one who'd seen it before and I was nervous. I simply wanted everyone to like it.

(And the old man we talked to outside the cinema did, too. James Stewart, he told us, was his absolute idol, coincidentally stationed in our city during the war).

They fell in love with it, of course. Who wouldn't? It is frilled with magic and I don't think it ever, really, dates.

Last night I didn't think I was going to cry, either. But I did. At exactly the same scene as last year--and probably next year, too.

weekend

At the weekend, Arnold and I watched this film--Before Sunrise.

And what I found in it was absolute beauty. (And a new favourite film).

We spent the rest of the weekend book-shopping, reading in bed together and taking naps. (I took the most). It was simple but oh, it was fun!

What did you do this weekend?

educated weekend

This weekend felt a little slower-paced. Or maybe that was the relief from the first---and potentially the hardest---exam resting complete. So we took a walk in a country park, strolled in the rain, meandered around an old market town and searched and searched and searched for a few antiques*.

And we also watched this.

And, oh, it was good!

I do recommend it: An Education.

*I saw one of the most beautiful chairs I have ever seen. An Edwardian library seat---all red, mahogany and leather. Unfortunately it was around £300 out of my price range---but oh, it was a treat to see.

what i like to watch

The other day the lovely Kaylia passed on an award for having one lovely blog. (And my, is she wonderful---please check her out. She has such an inspiring optimism towards life---but so honestly, too).

Inspired by her post about it, I, too, am going to share seven of my favourite films. (In no particular order).

(All sourced from IMDB).

(Jules Et Jim, Napoleon Dynamite, Amelie, (500) Days Of Summer, The Bridge To Terabithia, Kiki's Delivery Service and Wall-e).

They do, of course, always change. Some days I see more in them than others---but I will always, always find a way to argue for their merit.

What are your favourites?

the king's speech

This afternoon my love and I went to the cinema. We saw The King's Speech and I am wholeheartedly urging everyone to do the same---especially if you are even the tiniest bit interested in British history---or friendship, for that matter.

So it's plot won't shock you. It isn't a meandering path with an exaggerated or shocking climax---nor does it have innovative special effects...

...but I can pretty much guarantee it will move you.

And isn't that what good art does?*

*No, really. Is it? Thoughts, please!
